Hi, My name is Jan Ivar Czaplicki and I was born in Norway - but my parents are Polish, explaining my rather tricky name.
I came to New Zealand as a tourist with my wife in 2011. We travelled around, and fell totally in love with New Zealand. I managed to secure a job, and we settled in Auckland. In 2024 I became an Edmund Hillary Fellow, recognised for my work in climate technology and sustainability, particularly through founding CarbonClick.

Because of CarbonClick
CarbonClick is a climate-tech company I founded in 2017. While working at CarbonClick, I got deeply aware of technologies like solar and wind energy which help humanity to tackle climate change. I recently decided to reduce my involvement in CarbonClick. -
First hand experience of solar
In 2023 I put solar panels on my roof, giving me first-hand experience of this amazing technology. -
Costs & timing & frustration
Solar costs have plummeted and have a ridiculously short payback period. I knew NZ's time for solar had come but quickly learned (and became frustrated by) the low penetration, high prices and sluggish response to solar.
So, Hypersolar was born in June 2025. I've secured a team of experts to bring it to life. The secret ingredients are: Keep it simple, transparent & lean. Only the best hardware. At the lowest possible cost.
